Current Projects You Can Support
Project 1 – “Trust in Desalinated Water”
Project Story
During a visit to Ithaca, locals shared their relief when water scarcity was solved through desalination. But one issue remained: nobody drinks the desalinated water. People spend extra money buying bottled water — not because desalinated water is unsafe, but because they don’t trust it.
This is not just anecdotal. Based on a community survey we ran in the SeaToLife Facebook group (link to survey) , over 62% of respondents said they would only drink desalinated water if it had been tested and proven safe. Another 14% said they would only use it for cooking or showering, while 7% preferred bottled water no matter what. Only 1% said they drink it already without concern.
These results show a serious trust gap: people want safe water, but they don’t have confidence in desalination systems. That is why we are launching this project.
SeaToLife’s Initiative
SeaToLife will:
Conduct independent lab analyses of desalinated water in Greek islands.
Publish results in clear, citizen-friendly reports.
Run awareness campaigns to build public trust in desalinated drinking water.

€20 → funds one full water analysis in a local community.
€50 → supports a public information workshop.
€500 → equips a small lab with testing kits.
€1,000 → sponsors an island-wide awareness campaign.

Project 2 – “Athens Water Quality – From Source to Tap”
Project Story
Athens water is officially rated among the cleanest in Europe — 10/10 in the Urban Water Atlas for Europe with over 99.6% quality. But this rating reflects the water at its source and treatment plants, not what comes out of our household taps.
The distribution network is old — much of it built in 1926, with some pipes dating back to the 1950s and even earlier. That means water may travel through 70-, 80-, or even 100-year-old pipes before reaching our homes.
This raised a critical question: Can we really be sure that the water we drink every day — the same water we give to our children — remains safe after decades in such pipes?
What the SeaToLife Community Said
In a SeaToLife Facebook survey (link to survey):
61% of respondents said that a study analyzing water directly from taps across Athens would be very useful.
*35% said they would actively participate by providing a sample from their own home.
Only 1% felt no such study was needed, and 3% said they needed more information.
This shows overwhelming community demand for independent, transparent testing of tap water at the point of use.
SeaToLife’s Initiative
We will launch the first citizen-driven water quality study in Athens:
Collect tap water samples directly from households in different neighborhoods.
Run independent laboratory analyses on metals, microplastics, and residues.
Publish results in an open public report so citizens know the truth.
Develop a digital map of Athens water quality, updated with new samples over time.
Funding Goal: €60,000
💧€20 → covers the collection and analysis of one household sample.
💧💧€100 → supports a neighborhood-wide study.
💧💧💧€500 → funds portable testing equipment.
💧💧💧💧€1,000+ → supports the creation of the Athens Water Quality Map.

Project 3 – “Water Education & Awareness for a Resilient Future”
Project Story
Technology alone is not enough to solve the water crisis — we also need an informed and engaged society. Many people in Greece still lack awareness of how serious water scarcity is, or how other countries like Israel, Cyprus, and Singapore became water-secure through long-term planning, innovation, and education.
SeaToLife is launching a dedicated education and awareness program to reach schools, universities, and the wider public. Our goal is to inspire the next generation and empower communities to understand both the challenges and solutions to water scarcity.
SeaToLife’s Initiative
We will:
Deliver interactive presentations in schools to teach children about water scarcity, desalination, and climate change.
Partner with universities to organize seminars and workshops on sustainable water management.
Create public events and digital campaigns showing how other countries became water secure and what Greece can learn.
Develop educational materials (videos, booklets, online resources) for teachers, students, and community groups.
Funding Goal: €45,000
€20 → provides an educational booklet for a student.
€100 → funds a classroom presentation or workshop.
€500 → supports a university seminar with guest speakers.
€1,000+ → sponsors a community-wide awareness event or digital campaign.
Recognition for Contributors
Donors will be acknowledged on the Education Project Contributors Wall.
All supporters will receive a digital certificate for their role in empowering future generations.
Major contributors (€1,000+) will be recognized as Education Ambassadors, highlighted in our annual impact report.

🌊 Project 4 – “Brine: Challenge or Opportunity?”
📘 Project Story
During the summer months, Greek islands rely heavily on desalination to cover excessive water needs. However, most desalination units operate with legacy technologies and without organized planning. The result: brine (υφάλμυρο συμπύκνωμα) — the highly concentrated salty water left over after desalination — is often discharged directly into the sea.
While brine is often treated as “waste,” it actually contains high concentrations of salt, minerals, and other chemicals. If unmanaged, this can affect the marine ecosystem and biodiversity. And as the number of desalination units in Greece is expected to grow significantly in the coming years, this problem will intensify.
But there’s another side to the story: brine can be a resource. Countries like Israel already explore ways to reuse brine — for example, in the extraction of valuable minerals, industrial processes, or even renewable energy projects. This not only reduces environmental impact, but also helps lower the overall cost of water production.
That is why SeaToLife is launching this project.
💡 SeaToLife’s Initiative
SeaToLife will:
Conduct surveys on the status of brine management in Greek islands.
Assess the environmental impact of brine discharge on the marine ecosystem.
Publish clear, citizen-friendly reports explaining risks and opportunities.
Explore innovative uses of brine that could reduce the total cost of desalinated water in Greece (e.g., mineral recovery, salt by-products, circular economy).
Organize awareness campaigns to inform citizens and policymakers about sustainable brine management.
🎯 Funding Goal: €60,000
💧 €20 — funds one water/brine sample analysis in a local unit.
💧💧 €100 — supports a public information workshop on brine impacts.
💧💧💧 €500 — equips a team with field kits for brine monitoring.
💧💧💧💧 €2,000 — sponsors an island-wide survey and awareness campaign.
